Maryland Film Festival
A whole world of cinematic glory comes to Baltimore each and every May during the five-day Maryland Film Festival, as stimulating and well run as any in the country.
Diverse Films, High-Caliber Presenters
The festival presents some 50 feature films and 75 shorts over its impressively jam-packed schedule. Those features that hail from North America are all presented in person by their filmmakers: Everybody from Jonathan Demme to Lena Dunham has screened their works right here. And luminaries from other artistic forms show up to introduce their favorite movies; past stars have included Harry Belafonte and Will Oldham (aka Bonnie “Prince” Billy).
And speaking of luminaries, legendary auteur John Waters—who sits on the festival’s board of directors—yearly presents a feature film of his choosing for a lucky audience: always an illuminating choice, to say the least.
